misery just accompanied her, she embraced it as her friend.
no matter how good things started out, misery would be the end.
she took it everywhere she went, like a cloud, it hung overhead.
it greeted her in the early morning and went with her to bed.
no happiness could she found, her only contentment was misery.
no smiles, no laughter, no joy, was how she chose it to be.
she thought misery needed company, a sad and lonely mate.
it had to be one who, like she, in all things could find hate.
she met him on a summer day, as she sat complaining of the heat.
misery told her to ignore him because his smile was just too sweet.
he approached her all wrapped in joy and offered her a taste.
she tried so hard to resist for in misery she needed to baste.
the closer he got, the more she felt the serenity of his soul.
this wasn't what she sought, so him she began to scold.
"leave me and take your joy, I refuse to again travel that road.
I once carried joy in my heart, so much it seemed to explode."
she told how she gave her love but in return got only misery.
it was how to her love was shown, it was all that she could see.
still he came despite her words, came closer with his joy.
bringing her to a standstill he said, "I build, I never destroy!"
misery was dismissed that day,
it had to seek another home.
together with him and joy she dwelled,
never again to misery did she roam!
