The flame never went out

And to have you back in my life
Is a dream come true!
Someday I hope we can be "together" again
But for now, a best friend will do

I would imagine this was both a difficult yet rewarding situation to see your first love again after time passes. I can visualize the feelings and emotions that pour through you as you remember your time spent together. I cannot totally relate to how it feels to see my first love again. She left in 1995 to never be heard from again. But I march onward

I like the poem, but frankly the mere thought of anyone I was ever involved with in past history coming back into my life is absolutely horrifying
So for me it is a skeery poem.
The emotion of the piece is very apparant and the wording makes it feel sincere. That is always a good thing in emotional writes such as this. It tells a story that is familiar to many. I think that in many instances the saddest thing about a romantic relationship ending is the loss of a friend.

I lost my first love and we were never reunited because he died. Yet, I discovered new love. Your poem reminded me of how my girlfriend and I used to write in high school. She had a similar style like yours. This is sweetly written. I wouldn't change anything. It flows well and is a good read. Thank you for sharing.

That hit my heart like a ton of bricks
I know those words so well from my own mind and thoughts. The wording you used had me well up inside with the same emotions I feel for my love, the mother of our children. She decided to leave me out of the blue almost half a year ago. I cannot get her out of my mind. But I still remain her friend, and I cannot tell her how I feel for fears she will run away, and not be in my life at all. I really enjoyed the read and knowledge that someone else understands how I have felt. Thanks for the inspiring poem that hits home for me.
