How could you leave me here?
Such an impure world!
Everything around me, everyone...
is tainted.
Once, I thought I saw innocence.
I sought to contain it like a firefly in a jar.
We all know what happened next,
the innocence died.
It withered away, the only light I had ever known to be true.
Something in me died that day,
as if it were my long forgotten innocence.
Here I sit, twirling a white rose,
the only pure thing you ever gave to me.
Author notes
I'll just write that I was not in a good mood...and I don't believe innocence exists anywhere. Agree or disagree, I don't care.

This is a great poem. In today's world, innocence is extremely difficult to find anywhere. It can't be captured or held onto, and you expressed this very well. Very interesting thoughts put into this poem. Great write, keep it up

Innocence is a fleeting concept the moment we're born, the you have to look back upon days of being absolutely carefree...that's the day you realize your innocence was lost.
Though I will admit...one can lose childhood innocence, and keep that of the heart, but once that's lost...it's difficult to escape the past.
