pretending (this is all i need)

i watch you smile and i'm glad
i smile too
i force it
it makes sense in my head and i'm glad
or at least that is what i am pretending
i watch you
i watch the pair of you
and i pretend to smile
this is me pretending this is all i need
that your happiness is all that matters to me
that i don't feel the pain
that i don't think on it
that i don't remember
or that if i do
it doesn't hurt me to see things this way

and then there is the one
the one i want but cannot have
i just wish that i didn't feel like there was something i missed
that there was something i could gain from this
someone i could love
someone i could come home to
but this doesn't happen
the real world doesn't work this way
and so i pretend
i smile at the pair of you
and the other
we pretend to be just friends
because i know that somewhere deep inside
i did miss something
but there's no turning back to catch the wind
its gone

Author notes

the song is "my december" by linkin park.
the lyrics that inspired the poem were "this is me pretending this is all i need"
i also used the lyrics "and i just wish that i didn't feel like there was something i missed" and "to have someone to come home to" in this poem.

    This was an awsome read. I like poems that make me feel something and this did that. I really like how you use the lines and I love Linkin Park.
