You pretend you know,
but you’ll never understand
the pain we went through,
the things we lost that summer to you.
We wish we could make you understand,
but we fear you do, and all too well.
I’ll admit, it was our fault,
but you should of never given in.
No matter how much we tried,
and how hard we try today to forget.
You’ll never know what you took
from us that summer.
Author notes
I wrote this poem about a few young boys, long ago, who I feel I took away their innocence, and forever changed them, and the guilt I feel/felt after that summer ended, and I was sobered with that thought.
