Why Would You Love Me?

Oh, my Lord…
Why would You love me?

Your greatness exceeds human comprehension
and Your wealth surpasses the Earth’s riches.
In Your mind’s eye, my life has been viewed
and my judgment awaits its sentencing.

Before my existence, Your Blood was cruelly shed –
spilled for my sins, both conceived and committed.
You made Yourself vulnerable to man’s hatred
for saving flawed souls, such as myself.

To leave the comfort of Your heavenly realm,
for the sole purpose of being slaughtered as the sacrificial Lamb,
prior to my knowledge and acceptance of You,
supernaturally defines the concept of risk.

I have visualized the silent tears
that stained Your cheeks during Your Crucifixion,
but I am unable to fully appreciate the pain
that You suffered on my humble behalf.

Oh, my Lord…
Why would You continue to love me?

    Wow.

This is that type of poem that reaches out and touches the heart. I love how you list all these reasons why you are unworthy of His love. This pierces the heart of the reader and causes the reader to reflect and to say, "I really am not worthy." Great job.

I'm not much of a believer in this kind of thing. I don't not believe it either though.
Whether I believe it or not, this poem is undeniably amazing.
I expected it to be a typical love poem of some kind from the name, so I decided to read it because I've nothing better to do. Having read it, whether I had something else worthwhile to do or not, I'd still have had nothing better to do. Beautiful

Awesome awesome job. It's really hard to wonder how the Lord of lords continue to love us, when we hurt Him so much. For sure, He has unconditional love for us. It's amazing. Great job again.

God made the eternal sacrifice of love and Jesus was that. Because of that you know that God will always love you and Christ will always love you unconditionally whether you are right or wrong or do things in a bad way or something.. for he knows whats truly in your heart. Thats why you know he loves you.

    Good question.

I really don't have the answer, but I know He did, and does, and will even if we choose not to love Him. Thank you for reminding us just how much He loves and cares for us. I must be allergic to poetry like this in that every time I read a poem such as yours, my eyes water.
It was well written, and everything fits right into place. Bless you for sharing.

I think so many people ask this very question. Praise God! He has blessed with with such an amazing talent. It's awesome how you use it to praise Him. It's almost uncomprehendable how someone like Him would want to die for a sinner like me. But keep in mind He loves us and will never cease to be there! Amen!

I find myself asking the same question, why would HE love me? WE are so underserving, but yet He thinks we are more than derserving. We are His children and because of that, He will do all He can to save us.
You have written a wonderful piece of poetry. I truly enjoyed the read. I hope you do well in the contest.

Oh my, what an amazing piece. I often read poetry on this side and sometimes...only sometimes one gets rewarded by jewels such as this.

About the message...we will never be able to fathom the greatness of the love that lead to this ultimate sacrifice. The best we can do is just to truly appreciate it...and to love Him back by having a regard for Him in our lives every day.

    good quesiton

From a human perspective considering the frailty of human love, this is a good question. It's hard to comprehend the love of God in sending his son be sacrificed for us "while we were yet sinners." This piece shows what he did and shows amazement at the love displayed by his actions.
It have various references to the psalms and reads much like a praise prayer of David. Still it lacks imagery, but overall it offers fine praise to God.

    Very moving!

I am almost in tears reading this piece because it is so poewrful. The line that says"I have visualized the silent tears that stained Your cheeks during Your Crucifixion," made me stop and think - did God cry as He was crucified? Was He crying for me? It overwhelms me when I think of how much He loves me. Your poem just helped me to pause and think of just that.

it was written before it even happen that the lord had to go what he went through for us , for our salvation and our healing and to be forgived for our sins , i don't know anyone in history who has ever went through he went through just for us because he loved us so and still people wont belive , if that is not enough for them to belive then they never will , it makes me sad to think that people will not give there hearts to the lord for all he has done for us

So many ask themselves this very question, and until they learn the answer, they will always be searching for the truth, the faith that will keep them strong and help them overcome many obstacles. Sentiments well expressed.

Because it is all about grace. I love that you wrote about this. I believe that we are suppose to search for answers, though we may not always find them. That is what faith is. We believe, but we can still wonder. Very nicely written.

    Very good, flowing poem!!!
i think you touch many very good, strongpoint in this poem!!
    such as the opening question
    "Oh, my Lord…
    Why would You love me?"
i honestly think that at one time nearly every person has thought of this!!
And then the very stong, and powerful
"I have visualized the silent tears
that stained Your cheeks during Your Crucifixion,
but I am unable to fully appreciate the pain
that You suffered on my humble behalf."
this poem is great!! keep up the work!!

    I love

This poem is a wonderful write. I love the second stanza, that's how I see him. I love he line "your blood was cruelly shed-/spilled for my sin". Many people don't realize. I love the second to the last stanza too. This is a great poem. I love how you say "why would you continue to love me?" I feel that way too, how could he love someone who makes such mistakes. The Lord is so great!

The idea and meaning in this are beautiful beyond words. However, it seems like a story you're telling rather than poetry. The only part that really sounds poetic is the end. (Btw, I feel awful for writing this! Please forgive me!) Best of luck in the future!

    well done

Free will and choice are part of the human condition
and love, understanding, and compassion are keys to Christian faith. A life without sin seems unlikely a life in which sins are forgiven as others are forgiven seems to be the message of this passionate and thoughtful poem about the love of God. So very well done...PK

Oh sweetheart, we do not have to ask why of the Lord because He loves without question.
It does not matter what we do He will forgive us. Would we not forgive and love our own children no matter what? Then how much greater than that is the love of Our Father in Heaven, His love has no limits and is as endless as time.
Don't question His love but bathe in it's warmth for it is mightier than the sun, close your eyes and feel His presence in your very being, feel His love and rejoice.

    God Bless you

    Hugs

GOD's ways are impossible to understand for us. But we do get hints that should urge us to ponder. It is beyond perception to think that Jesus loves the race that tortured and murdered him. And immediately after these crimes descent into satan's dungeons where HE is coldly welcomed by all demons of the universe in the flesh, who know it is a one time opportunity to wipe Jesus away from the universe. But the power of all evil combined HE vanquished with just HIS ability and desire to Love. It is a devastating situation Jesus chose to be in in order to save our souls. No danger or threat was ever greater and Jesus knew that. But it did not prevent HIM from going down to hell to free our souls. We do not have to understand why HE loves us; we are incapable of that, being aware of our flaws and acts that we do not take pride in. But exactly that reflects the greatness of GOD's infinite Love. Thank you for creating and sharing. Take care,

    U

    Gods Love

It can't be defined....It really can't be labeled...but we are human so we label everything so that we keep everything in there place so we don't go crazy...He loves the murderers, the theives, the child molesters and killers, and the rapists... His Love...God's love is unimaginable...we feel it and there are no words...He isn't expecting words...Just Love in return...Great write and keep writing for Chirst..a breath of fresh air...

Why do He continue to love someone as unworthy and flawed as me? I don't know. I can only continue to wonder. Thanks for sharing this. Love and hugs...
