Will bring doubt to some as well
I swear though this is true
Just as I write it to you
I was a boy all of eight years old when my Grandma died
For many days I did nothing but cry
I was her favorite, I was always at their farm
She always was careful to keep me from harm
I helped her churn butter on the porch by the well
As to me many stories of Grandpa she would tell
Her kitchen was one I will never forget
The old time oven you started with kindling I remember yet
The smell of homemade bread and apple pie
These are sweet memories that still bring tears to my eyes
My Grandpa and Uncles would come in from the fields as she rang the bell
This was her call for dinner instead of trying to yell
One evening she became very ill
Grandpa sitting by her side as she lay so still
She refused to go to the hospital, she would not leave his side
I remember her holding his hand, her smile was so loving and wide
She died peacefully with Grandpa holding her hand
The next day into my dear woods I ran
Mom understood and left me alone
She sat down and talked with me when I came home
The church was packed with people standing outside
Listening to the preacher holding hands, standing side by side
She was loved by all, always helping everyone in need
This way to me she taught, this was her belief, her creed
A few days after she died I lay in bed fighting sleep one night
Suddenly at the foot of my bed was a soft, misty light
I sat up and seen my Grandma smiling at me
I screamed and mom came running asking what did I see
As I told her she smiled and said I had a bad dream
She was so scared as never before had I screamed
But after that night my Grandma came to me
Peaceful, restful sleep my heart and soul was to see
Author notes
So many do not believe in everlasting life but she truly came to me that night and smiled as if to say yes she was happy and I need not fear for her, I could go to sleep and rest. She never appeared to me again, but the memories on the farm spending days with her will forever be in my heart and mind. (Uncle Bud).

Wonderful
That is so awesome that you can still remember the stories that your Grandmother told you. Death is such a hard thing to deal with, especially when its a close relative.
Thanks for sharing!

DEAR BADDDGIRL
Thank you so much for reading my little poem about my Grandmother's visit to me. She came to me the night after her funeral, she never came again. I was always her favorite and was having a terrible time sleeping as I felt so lonely without her. I was so surprised that after her visit I felt so relaxed and slept so peacefully from that night on.

You have some great memories to remember your beloved grandma, I have no doubt that she came to see you

A truely wonderful poem
This is such a beautiful poem you have written. I believe you saw your grandma that night. I have never been one to believe in the afterlife or reincarnation and things of that nature, but I had a similar experience to yours not long after my mum passed away. It wasn't a vision but she made her presence known physically one morning. I believe it was just to let me know that she had found her peace at last and that she had indeed moved on to a better place. Now I think that maybe there may be something more than what we have in this world. I guess I will just have to wait my turn to find out.
Thank you for sharing this with us.

Beautiful! Your re-telling of this experience is excellent, Kevin! They say that our loved ones will come to us if they feel we need them, and your grandma must have known you needed to be sure she was resting peacefully for you to be able to restfully sleep. So she gave you that last smile, to comfort her grandson one last time. You told this story in such a lovely way. Just beautifully written. Thank you so much for sending me the link so I could read this piece!

Kevin, I understand this completely...for where there is deep love and sorrow, there is often a moment of understanding that only the two of you can share. She gave you peace that night and many great memories for a life time. Mine was with my grandfather.
Love to you my friend.
Always remember the bond you two had still holds, till you met again.

This is a beautiful story Kevin....My grandpa did the same thing to my grandma when he passed...Then years and years went by before he returned...the last couple of weeks before she passed away, She said that he was coming back at night to sit with her on the bed...she said he was getting her ready for the long walk to heaven...True story...
