Judge at your own risk

I am unlike you...
I can hear,
I can feel,
I can touch.
I am just like any other person.
Yet I don’t feel that way.
You may look at me,
And I seem like any other person.
Once you notice my inability to see,
You judge.
My eyes don’t work like yours.
I won’t see life the way you do.
Everyday functions are hard,
Too simple for you to comprehend.
Listen to my words,
Understand that I am not normal,
Yet, I too can be successful in life.
I might just have to work a little harder.
Look at me now,
What do you really think?
Do you think you can go on...
Living a normal life?
What is it that you would do?

Author notes

In the eyes of a blind person... everyday life we take for granted and never think twice about. A shame.

Sometimes the blind me sees much more than you or I. For they are not pressured by what they don't see, but by what they feel. Life should be more like that. ~Bud~

    Dear Kalen,

It is very difficult for a sighted person to know the inner feelings of the blind. We can imagine, we can observe the behaviour and the adaptations. We can even close our own eyes to become temporarily blind but is that the same? Howould we feel if we suddenly found ourselves unable to open them again and to be condemned to permanent darkness? What if we had NEVER seen the light or those things around us that we so often take for granted?
Your poem provokes much thought and, I hope, gratitude for God's wonderful gifts of light and sight.
Applause, love and hugs, XXX Hugh.

Good write! Too many people tend to overlook the things blind people and other handicapped people go through in life. Thank you for bringing it to their attention. ~Bud~

Ok, wow...sorry, for a second there I actually thought you WERE blind, I was kind of wondering how you typed it all. I'm sure it's possible, but sorry, it just surprised me. You did a good job writing a poem from their perspective and I agree, we take for granted our vision...even though mine isn't perfect, I do appreciate it. I love making artwork, so I learn to see the world as if it were all in different medias of art...if that makes sense.

    Anyway, good write.
