In and out, such a simple act
If it stops.then so do you
You fight for it
Lose it at moments unexpected
Suck it in, in fear undetected
Out and in, so easy to do
In and out, a natural act
Quit on your own then damn you
You plead for it
Regain it in rife explication
Cry at others knowing cessation
A single breath won't do
Out, in, out, in.
Cancer tried to take it again
I won, so each is a grateful moment.

Great
I can really identify with this poem or I should say with the message it gave to me. You seem to be expressing the fact that so we so often take simple things like breathing for granted until it is or any moment could be taken from us and we would be no more. I said I could identify with you, not with cancer but I have and arm long list of other things, Lupus, MS, strokes both major and mini , etc. Many a day I thought was my last, but I made it through and many more. GOD wasn't ready for me and I really wasn't ready to go. My kids still needed me. I also have had those grateful moments. Be happy with them and fight to breath to continue to have many more. I really love this poem.

thank you so much for a wonderful contest-entry ... breath is an incredible way of connecting ourselves with the present moment ... if we listen to the breath with attention and without modifying its rhythm, the mind calms down very quickly and we feel peaceful soon ...
like in your case, a recently discovered serious health-challenge has taught me gratitude for the gift of breath (a great contest-title, by the way
... hmmm, let's see ...)
so I resonate very much with your words here ...
wonderful ...
all the best,

maa

May God heal you as He did me
Of course he had help, but in His hands I stay. Win/Win

I like this a lot. Kind of suspenseful. Has a feeling of realness.
I'm not sure what you mean in line eight...
"tnen" - "then" maybe?
Best of luck

Oh, I see. I'm still unsure about what word that fifth is though.
Thank you for the explanation. -
