Forgotten Garden

Tucked strategically
amongst cement and steel,
a small patch of nature
lies exposed.

Wildly growing weeds,
weave their way
through cracked flagstones.
Its once vibrant beauty,
distorted by looming shadows
and gray, mottled blooms.

Cultivated  rows
of life uninhibited,
reduced to
overturned soil
littered with mans discards.
Its borders,
painstakingly created
so long ago,
lie wounded,
and indefinable.

Morning sun filters through
man made mountains.
Seeking blindly
for rainbow colors
of a time gone by.

Gentle breezes,
caress drooping stems,
and whisper quietly
of inevitable death.
Glistening drops of dew,
reflect lost tears
of the forgotten.

Every treasured seed,
filled with remembrances,
longs for the return
of mans loving touch.
Until inevitably,
they begin to wither
with sad understanding…
of the gardeners demise.

Author notes

I wrote this with the thought of how man seems to have forgotten that all that is beautiful and miraculous in this world, needs to be nurtured and coaxed to fruition...We seem to all be so caught up in our own lives, that we forget how important even one single unselfish gesture can be...This is what came of it...

    Brilliant imagery.

Yes, we have forgotten haven't we? How much of our land has been built up and it's true beauty lost? What is it that we're missing when we spend our days in highrises?
