Poetic Rhapsody

Missing image
I’d play a little Chopin, if I could stroke the keys,
a mazurka or a prelude, an etude I’d play with ease,
and treasure timbral beauty within a polonaise,
I’d play his waltz for pianoforte in small sidewalk cafes.

I’d play a little jazz, if I could blow a horn,
a tune from Miles Davis, for those lost and forlorn,
my horn would weep with sorrow’s notes, like no one’s ever heard,
I’d wail a soulful ‘Summertime,’ and cry out every word.

If I could play a saxophone, I’d play a little blues,
I’d play like Charlie Parker, of life's nuances and hues,
I’d drive that alto sax until it lifted up to fly,
and play his ‘Cosmic Eyes’ to you, a lover’s lullaby.

So many gifted people play their songs that make us swoon,
but sad to say, I cannot play a solitary tune.
So I write words instead to paint my feelings when they play
their melody, a rhapsody that takes my breath away.

This Poem is Music To My Ears

The verdict says it all. Great Job!

I think this poem is really good. It has a lyricism I almost never see and a pleasant rhyme scheme. The cadence seems a little odd in places, but I might just be being nitpicky. I also liked your vocabulary choices. I thought they were unusually good.

I love this. The word choice and rhyme are fantastic, and it's one of those kinds of poems that stirs something inside of me. Awesome!

And, you certainly do. This poem captures my own thoughts. There are a lot of us who write the songs they hear in their heads, and wish for musical skill. Excellent.

poetry is music, at least it is to me
everything I like, it ryhmes musicily
words are the art, candy for our mind
notes encircling, sweets that we find

This is very cool..as a musician and a poet. Your words and talent are all the instruments you need.
Nice flow, rhyme and it could be turned into a song.
    Well done!

This is lovely rhyming poetry and being a music lover (and playing a little piano and guitar) your words fall like music on my ears. You might not be able to play an instrument but your pen has Chopin's evenness of touch. This one reads like a song... beautiful.

Symitar, I've seen this on your Author's Page and went looking for it so I could tell you that I love it. Not all of us can have the gift of being musical - but not all of us can have your gift with words, either.
