Orion stood quietly in the western sky
Midway between directly above me
and moonset
He looked rather befuddled
A stick figure without even the lines
Connecting the dots
The stars that composed him
Betelgeuse
Bellatrix
Rigel
Saiph
He was mighty
Shoulders stretching across the light years
Sword in hand
Guarding the heavens
And I felt safe
There will be no comets
Crashing into our world tonight
I’ll look for him tomorrow too...

I loved the spirituality ...
of this poem, Zt. Orion is visible from all over the world -- not so? For me it is almost a Jesus Star -- sworded and bright and the Hunter of man. And: of course we are protected.
Thank you for a poem very textured and a token of the divine. Loved your exit line.
Good to see you Poet.
Love
Myra

Illumed at sunset
Orion showers me like a
rainbow with his spectrum
his breathless orchard
above my head -
this magnificent mocker of the universe
I touch, only touch (lest I destroy my own makings)
only touch beyond his burning drums
into the winds of nothingness
that which I created it all from...
Eruaphadriel
roars like a volcano
a moat around me
like a squeezing viper
a sacrificial rip
in all the proportions
I have carved out of your thrust
I fixed it for you -
the watcher from earth

This reminds me of a guy I used to like in highschool. Orion is his favorite constellation....
I liked this. I didn't know that Orion was made up of named stars...
Thanks for the little Astronomy lesson
I enjoyed this piece.
Thanks for your entry and good luck in the contest!

ah... i love it. maybe just cause he's always been one of my favourites. maybe just because you can make me forget so completely where i am, sitting under lights in the day feeling as far away from the vast heavens as possible. but still.. breathtaking.

the hunter....
Ah, zt - you've expounded on the expanse with a vast eloquence and poetic demeanor that rivels the best. This is one of my favorite constellations in the sky. Especially in the south-eastern sky in Montana around September-October period. Power-fist thrust in word, my friend. ~ Ed

hell yeah!
Only you can think of something this "randomly" perfect. I love the idea of Orion being our protector in a way, also the description and knowledge of the stars that make him up... it's just amazing. You really never cease to fascinate me. I love the last two lines of that last stanza... something about them made me feel that their meaning went beyond comets to a more personal level. Beautiful. Random. Perfect!

HA just how I like em too. Orion is my favorite constellation because he is the only one I can see in the night sky and the only one that when I squint my eyes I can actually imagine his life like form. He is very comforting. Great poem, send me old stuff please
