Close Enough for Rock and Roll

I can see the love in her eyes
The kind that makes a grown man cry
But I know that love will have to die
Because I gave my heart to rock and roll

Because my life isn't great
But it's close enough for rock and roll
I'm thrown to the rocks and I roll with the blows
And I'll never love you
'cause you can't fill the hole
In my life
But it's close enough for rock and roll

'cause rock and roll doesn't worry
and rock and roll doesn't care
and rock and roll doesn't give a shit
'bout things like clothes or looks or hair

And I'll never paint great works of art
And I'll never write great songs
But with rock in my heart,
I can't go too far wrong
As I live for the day,

And once again I chase the night
And search for courage deep within
To bear to torch of rock and roll
To where the day is growing thin

'cause there's a place upon the mountain
Where we can live the life long day
And we'll never have to worry
And all our cares will fade away
And we'll lose ourselves in the music
And it will last forever more
And there'll be no more you, or me,
Just pure, sweet, rock and roll.

Because my life isn't great
But it's close enough for rock and roll
I'm thrown to the rocks and I roll with the blows
And I'll never love you
'cause you can't fill the hole
In my life
But it's close enough for rock and roll

Author notes

An idea I've wanted to write for a while, and some of the lines here seemed to fit. Obviously needs a lot of tinkering, and I doubt it'll win, but I wanted to write it down before I forgot it. Possibly have an intro to do with killing the lights... but more on that later.

    Love it!

I absolutely love this...I can completely see/hear it as an awesome rock song! Wonderfully written. I especially loved the last two stanzas (or, I guess, last stanza and the chorus). This would totally rock if it were recorded... Anyway, awesome job!

This part I loved the most:

'cause there's a place upon the mountain
Where we can live the life long day
And we'll never have to worry
And all our cares will fade away
And we'll lose ourselves in the music
And it will last forever more

    Just great
For me this looks like a winner

    YaYa!!!

I just love, love, love this part:

Cause there's a place upon the mountain
Where we can live the life long day
And we'll never have to worry
And all our cares will fade away
And we'll lose ourselves in the music
And it will last forever more
And there'll be no more you, or me,
Just pure, sweet, rock and roll.

This part of your poem has rhythm and rolled off my tongue as easy as any song. I loved the words and the message this part holds also. This is a song right? If it isn't it should be made into one. Awesome entry Thank you very much for the entry and best wishes in the contestDove
