Early March (07). For any who may be interested, Early March 2006, is typed under this one.
Dandelion shows golden hairy head.
Daisies becoming an increasing sight.
Blackheaded seagulls have now taken flight.
The mist that about fields its greeness shed,
Has now transformed to hawthorn bush instead.
Sloespike's delicately scented blooms bright,
Attempt the barren hedges to requite;
Their twiggy taut starkness to overspread.
Of white violets we have now some knots;
Even in gardens, let alone in wood;
You may find them in occasional spots;
Quite a chance discovery if you should.
Celandines emerge, like butter-hued dots;
Appearing where only grass stalks once stood.

Early March.
Now in the wood glades are spring lilies white,
Like a carpet between the trees spreading.
Another across farmland fields text’ring,
Green, as yet, still only as lawn grass light;
Initial growth, it’s scarcely achieved quite;
A brighter gold, might sage summer soon bring;
When March has ceased from turbulent wand’ring,
And April stopped flying its show’ry kite.
First violets, in a garden, I’ve seen.
Coy, timorous and deep purple they were;
Purple and shy amongst the herbage green.
Not yet, at that moment, causing much stir.
But many violets might grace the scene,
When blithe spring’s next phase begins to occur.
