Drifting Away

The wood is chopped,
the lawn is mowed.
brush in a pile,
read to burn.

The tractor is clean,
put in the garage.
the horse grain bin
is filled and in place.

The crickets are singing,
the frogs delight in
the beautiful starry
dark of night.

I go to my room,
and unmake my bed,
satisfied with my day's work.
all is well.

I undress,
a grin broken
across my face.
it's already eleven at night.

I open my windows
and let the sweet smell
of summer enter my room.
how i love it.

Up in my bed i curl,
loving that well-worn feeling
of comfort that comes only
with being tired and happy.

I pull out some paper,
and write these thoughts for you.
may they bring you some joy, my friend.
i love you.

Off with the lamp, computer too.
away with the scrap for now.
i go back to bed for a night's sleep,
drifting off in a wonderful dream.

this is just something that came to me last night...and honestly i can't remember if i've seen this title used before, but if i took your's, sorry

    great poem!!!

    i loved the description!!! I also thought taht it had a really great flow and tone!!

    hey ive written alot like this!! but of corse there not here....lol great job.. gosh me and you and leah and sarah and maggie and matt and jessi(did I forget anyone?) should like publish a book!!!! I want to anyway...after I fix my sucky poems(all of them..lol) great job babes! keep penning!

    hey hun, this is really good... and it's good to see you write
    something that doesn't have gov. in it... just kidding! you know
    i love all your works. but I really like this one. it's really
    good... it's kinda like a poem i wrote Insomniac... not on ap, to
    stupid. and it was just about one of my sleepless nights. anyways
    i really like this and it's good to know your still dreaming.
