Stairway to Heaven

I'm not quite sure I'll ever make it that far.
The stairway I look for is beyond all the scars.
One would think, I'd be lead the right way.
I'm sorry to say, that never was true, and still
isn't today.
Men and Women of God just want to keep the peace.
It's almost like to get to Heaven, you must
sign a lease.
Don't bring up troubles, and questions, just
listen to me.
If you do that, and follow, you'll get there,
you'll see.
They'll show you to a door where the stairway is.
All you must trade, is the life you live.
Maybe I should climb the rocky path instead.
After all now at this place in time.
It would seem the Stairway to Heaven, is
littered with mines!

Author notes

My problem has never been with God, it's with the people that claim to follow his lead. Jesus didn't belong to any specific church, and he never minded answering questions.
He lived what he taught, many people within many churches do not. I'll take the rocky path, I will not trade my Soul for anything. Connie

    A real nice write.

    Matthew 7:7,8.
"Keep on asking, and it will be given YOU; keep on seeking and YOU will find; keep on knocking and it will be opened to YOU."
For everyone asking receives, and everyone seeking finds, and to everyone knocking it will be opened."

    Matthew 7:15,-17.
Be on the watch for the false prophets, that come to YOU in sheeps covering, but inside they are ravenous wolves.
By their fruits you will recognize them. Never do people gather grapes from thorns or figs from thistles do they?
Likewise every good tree produces fine fruit, but every rotten tree produces wothless fruit.

    Matthew 7:20.
Really, then, by their fruits you will recognize those{men}.

A heart searching write, nicely written, thankyou for sharing, I did enjoy your work.

      Thanks again,

My path maybe rocky, but at least I'm heading the right way. Sometimes people put far too much into religion, and not enough into God. It's just my thought, you know, Don't just talk the talk, but walk the walk, or else you aren't being true to yourself, or God. Connie

Kudos to you... in addition to writing a great piece, you've asked lots of the questions that I think plague us all... well, I'm not religious, but the sort of...hypocrisy...that I see in a lot of churches still bothers me. I hope you find the truth that you're looking for, and don't give up your unwillingness to surrender the way YOU see God to the way many people treat religion. And thanks for putting this up; maybe you'll get the attention of a few more people!

    Rant over.
This was very well written, and I have to disagree with paullallady. I thought that you captured a lot of your feelings in this. I liked the form, and the rhythm was normally flawless. However, maybe just one suggestion...? They rhythm sounded a bit forced in the line "I'm sorry to say, that never was true, and still
isn't today" just sounded a bit awkward...maybe try reading it aloud along with the rest of the piece? Maybe repeating the piece multiple times until you really capture the cadences and feel of the lines, and see if there's anything that fits better than that one line? Or maybe it's just me... anyway, that's what I perceived.

But anyway, great job, and I really loved this piece!

      Thanks,

every word of this poem, is truly how I feel. Hopefully it will make people aware, that God is not always how some teach him/her, or whatever you believe God to be. Also to watch out, it's not
necessary to follow anything blindly. That's why we have free will.

I definately agree with your authors notes. Though I am not really sure that you captured this feeling in your poem. I don't believe the stairway to heaven is littered with mines, but I do believe that a lot of the people are running around down here laying mines for each other and themselves. So this is a very thought provoking and interesting piece, which to me, makes it awesome!!

      Thanks for reading.

This poem reflects how all the turmoil within the churches affects me. I will never follow anything blindly, which leaves me with alot of troubles usually. My stairway taught to me is littered with mines, Silence, obedience, keeping secrets. So therefore I'm not blocked from Heaven, as alot of people would say. I just will take an alternate route. Thanks again for reading, hopefully this clears this up a little. Sometimes though, it's hard to be personal, and
open to others as well. Thinking is always a good thing to provoke.
