Generally Unaffected

I've this book of selected poems
by Billy Collins that leaves me
generally unaffected.

I keep reading, though. It's
convienient for me as the
book's home is on the back of
my toilet.

Every time I read, generally
unaffected, I find one poem
I like within the selection.

Just one. I dog ear the corner
so I can come back to it in
a different frame of mind.

It seems now, after being
generally unaffected by the
entire book more than once,

that most of the pages are
dog-eared and his tone has
melded with mine.

At least for a little while.

I love the irony of this. What makes it better is the fact that I know you so well. Thanks for entering.

    Well Done!!!!!

I liked the meaning of this.. how a poem can not strike you as much one day .. then on the next.. it just clicks and makes a lot of sense.. like a hidden jewel between the lines!

    very good!

I really like this poem very much but I was having a hard time putting it into words (usual to this poet!) but when I read Danna's comments that is how I felt also.

I like the poem. I think I understand what you are saying, as I have had the same sort of response to different poems. They will not strike me as anythig special on one day, and then I look at them another time, and I see something in it that I missed before. Sometimes that is a good thing, and sometimes it isn't

I like the tone of the poem, and how you say the book's home is the back of your toilet. That gives the reader a definite sense that this is not Wordsworth or Bukowski or even Angelo. This is something on a completely different level. And yet, he has affected you in some ways, melding into your own tone. I like it.

Not sure about any suggestions at this point. I just like it a lot.
