Sayounara

Dawn breaks on my first day alone,
And I'm punishing the hands of my clock,
Saying "Why must you move so fast?
Why is it life can't last?"

It was just a flash of lightning,
Just a tiny wave of hope,
I knew you had to go someday,
But couldn't there have been a delay?

Twenty years would do it for me,
Even ten, that sounds okay,
Here's hoping you'll return,
Before my stomach starts to churn too hard,
Here's hoping you could return at all,
Sayounara,

I wait on my porch with a handful of roses,
For twenty-three hours each day,
And as each comes to wilt,
There's an uprising guilt,
How I couldn't have forced you to stay,

I make dinner for two,
Give both servings to you,
And let my self dwindle away,
So you can't come to me,
But I've promised to see,
If my heartbreak will meet you someday,

And they say every day that it's better,
To have known how to love and have lost,
But if I recall saying "Try it,
To lose is the shallowest cost."

So it's climbing back up on the horse that they want,
And it's pity on which they insist,
So I'll say my good-by, my au revoir, my ta-ta,
Sayounara...

This is an awesome poem but your title is mispelled...
Sayounara, there must be no "u" It is Sayonara(さよなら)means farewell or goodbye. Goodluck!...小百合

    This was absolutely awesome!
Especially the line about forcing the person to stay - wow!
goodbye to you, my love... rends the remains of my heart. sigh
If there are too many more of these in my stack to read, I think i'll need another box of tissue!
Thank you so much for entering this.
