Her heart pumps love for the world
Out to the surface it shows
Her love/hate relationship
With humanity
She hates them because she loves them
And hates how they treat each other
Her request is simple, but profound
To make the world a more beautiful place
I have become her new focus
A direction for her heart to shine in
I am privileged for this honor
The sweetness will never sour on my watch
With privilege comes responsibility
And so I will ensure
To take this heart
Into gentle, open hands
The minutes fly by while we’re together
As though there are too few moments
But there is much time ahead
To inhale this fleeting grace
We laugh and hold each other
Like we were always waiting for these moments
As though some strange destiny
Is in underlying breaths
There is a bit of vagueness
In the way we got together
But somehow we both know
This is the respite we always wanted
