Well you see, I live is res- what a boring place to be,
You only have to look around and I'm sure you will agree
My roomies and I know the rules well, we all knew the risks to take,
But, alas, in hindsight, it was a huge mistake...
To flout the Man and get our kicks, we knew we needed a pet
Had to be small and cute, and within a student budget.
So to pet store we all atrooped, to see what we could find
Keeping all of our critter criteria well and truly in mind.
And so we came to Krall, our darling little man
All beige and white on top, and a belly full of tan.
We knew we found our ideal pet- A tiny little hamster,
There was no way that this could turn into any sort of disaster!
Home and happy, he made the trek in his little box
And then into his cage with the special "escape-proof" locks
We didn't see a need to ever doubt the label
Critters smart enough to escape were surly just a fable!
Yet one morn when we awoke: Krall had breached the cage!
A full-on res house hunt we immediately had to stage-
Along the walls, between the chairs, and even in the cupboards
There was not a single inch of that house that wasn't completely covered
But Krall did not turn up on that sad and fateful day,
He is now loose in our res, to our horror and dismay
But at least our new pet won't eat, escape or poop-
Since all we have left now is his little coop!
You only have to look around and I'm sure you will agree

Author notes
This is indeed inspired from actual res tales. Unfortunately for Krall, things didn't exactly turn out for him this nicely in real life, but I thought it best to have him still alive in this version!

This really made me chuckle. I had one of those cute little critters when I was 8 years old, and he was always escaping. SOmetimes he would be missing for weeks at a time. Eventually I would find him, with a nice little nest he had made for himself somewhere in the house, with lots of scraps he had somehow snuck from our kitchen and the garbage. This happened several times, until one day, I never found him again. Se la vi! I hope that he had a good rest-of-his-life in freedom. He was such a cute little fellow!

Incomprehensible.

Hamster blood is of little interest to me. Too salty. And the bite is too furry.

That is kind of funny. I wonder what he's up to between the walls. It's funny the way animals like that tend to escape, disregarding the fact that they have a constant supply of food where they are!

Well Im glad you kept him alive for the purposes of this piece! I had a hamster when I was small that used to do the whole escape thing too! I loved this piece, its cute and funny, and creates a great little image in my mind of this renegade creature hiding round every corner lol. Thankyou for the entry!

I am so sorry for your hamster. Maybe next time a bigger pet would be more appropriate for your family. LOL Nice write! -
I saw this before it was finished, and I was hoping you'd end it off well! It's a great write and an excellent tribute to our poor little man.
Good luck in the contests!
