I heard the news a while ago
But I could not stand the pain.
I did not want to think you gone,
To never run again.
And so I just continued on
As though it was not true,
It's taken me some time to see
That I really won't see you.
Your spirit was not broken down
And though your bones were split,
You carried on with head held high
And seemed to be so fit.
I tried to keep from crying when
I knew your fight was over,
Deep down I felt your dying wish,
To lay beneath the clover
So many hearts you did inspire
While you were running free.
Barbaro... your time so short,
Alas, we barely knew ye.

This is an appealing poem that obviously concerns itself with the heartbreak of losing a loved horse that was special to the narrator. I adore all animals and felt your pain in this poignant poem.

Very good..
... I really enjoyed this poem. It had a lot of emotions and full of angst. It flowed very well. I thank you for using the word bank. Thank you for entering the contest and the best of luck to you. Kassie -
