I come here to think, to rest awhile from life,
But not to be alone.
It is quiet here, I can slow down my race of life,
And give my past a chance to catch up with me.
I can talk to people long gone, shadows,
Have conversations, say I’m sorry; I say sorry every time,
Just in case they did not hear me last time we were resting.
They never reply, so I can not tell if they have heard,
But they smile tiredly, and it’s nice to think they are listening
They do not dance in my memories
Or whisper in my ear
Like they do in books.
In books, everything turns out right in the end,
Books are liars.
They simply sit and rest a while,
And I sit with them,
Until my life begins to run again,
And in a short while, they follow too, but always one step behind,
Too far away to see
Unless you stop again, and let the past catch up once more

You have some really good ideas in this poem.
One thing I noticed but I'm just picky: in line 8 it is "cannot" not "can not".
My favourite lines:
"Books are liars.
They simply sit and rest a while,
And I sit with them,
Until my life begins to run again"
I really like this poem and again all the best in the contest xxx
