The Soviet Union lived on Russian blood
That is why their flag was red
a sickle to slice open flesh
and a hammer to smash open skulls
Birthed in bloody revolution
of a people taxed into poverty
by a Czar who bathed in gold
Russians killed Russians, and Russia bled
and Lenin, who promised freedom
filled the Gulags with Russians
Civil war followed, the Whites and the Reds
the streams of blood turning to rivers
as Stalin began the Great Purges
and forced his nation into famine
Them another vampire came to feast
when Hitler stormed across Russian borders
in an effort to out-drink Stalin
already drunk on Russian blood
Millions of dead were not enough
as the Patriotic war raged on
no sooner did the Reichstag fall
than Stalin made an enemy out of an ally.
Cold War, with a hot, atomic death
Hung in the balace for whole generation
while sabers rattled, in third world battles
Russian Blood spilled on foreign soil.
Afghanistan with steep mountains
and narrow roads where Mujahedeen
lay in ambush at every turn
for a taste of Russian blood.
Perhaps it is this Russian blood
So tasty in the mouths of tyrants
that proved the poisonous draught
that lead to Communisms fall.
Let the flowers of peace grow in Russian soil,
the Russians have watered it with their own blood.

Very powerfully written, and so true. The Tsars may have somehow did wrong, but another wrong doesn't make a right. I love the last bitter, and yet objective two lines:
Let the flowers of peace grow in Russian soil,
the Russians have watered it with their own blood.
As poetry this is very creatively written.

Very powerful, unfortunatly true. A great write on the history of the Soviet empire that crumbled as they all do. I fear that soon it will be our turn.
