Letters

In my drawer lay a handful of letters
With poetic words from wishers and dreamers
The letters go back and forth from one hand to another
Telling tales of how they love each other
There was a smudge here where lips were placed
And a warmth on the page where he rubbed his face
For one though, the ink ran dry
The other waited as his partner’s love died
The last letter that she sent was written with a shaky pen
And now he wishes for what could have been
I search through my drawer of letters everyday
Hoping for a chance that another letter will come my way
And I can cherish it as I had once before
And be happy again, once and forevermore

Please tell me what you think
