Power

Addiction
Intense cravings
Obsession with gaining

Lustful desire consumes your soul
The burning need blinds your intentions
Your eyes transform to gleaming, black coal
There’s no turning back, no interventions

Nothing now will stand in your way
Your destructive path will lead to your end
there is no price that you wouldn’t pay
To be the most powerful to ever ascend

It beckons you forth with tantalizing visions
Haunting your vivid dreams every night
Right or wrong you make your decision
to dive into darkness or walk towards the light

Many succumb to its seductive scheme
Only seeing what they want to see
Falling for illusions and dreams
Thinking it will set them free

The intoxicating thrill
Desire to feel
Power

Author notes

    Uh-oh

Can anyone say..."Dic-tator?" I love the shape you created with this poem. Kind of like a diamond...the strongest rock of all. Hmmm...any relation to the words. Hmmm :thinks:
Anyhoo, the words you use depict someone in desperate need of control and power. There's so many different kinds of power, but you have penned something that seems like it could cover all of them.
    Great emotional imagery!

Yes, power can be an addiction, and can be likened to many events in life.
So then you must have seen The Covenant...I think it's my favorite movie now. Thank you so much for your comments.
      And I'll definately keep writing.
