There is a divide so great
placed between us by fate
I cannot reach you with endless love
though it spans above
the burning stars
stretching far
beyond the vastness of space
dispersed across the universe
around the world
and around again.
I cannot conquer this great divide
nor shall I try
to seek you in this realm.
I’ve freed you to rest
your spirit there
where only eternity can reunite
the cruel separation that ripped you away
so far beyond my grasp.
I hope you are there waiting
that you found our destiny
to be the only place
perfected for you and me.
I’m not yet finished with my journey here
though I want to leave this empty place
so I can laugh again in your presence
enjoying mansions in golden heavens
and long with sorrows
that cannot be understood.
I see tomorrows approaching,
joyfully embracing the thought of
loving you, and touching you again,
united as angels, forever friends,
without distance to be our mortal enemy.
But, I see you on the shore line there
telling me to take my time down here,
to finish molding the masterpieces
we created,
holding the lives
we celebrated.
We’ll have eternity.
We’ll have eternity.

Giving this a final read and some applause...

I've read this several times now, and each time I just want to sigh and sink into the thoughts and feelings the piece evokes in me.
"I hope you are there waiting
that you found our destiny
to be the only place
perfected for you and me."
Those lines especially touched me...how beautiful to know or even just hope that there IS a place perfected for two people that share a love so deep.
I throughly enjoyed this from beginning to end. Thank you for your entry and good luck in the contest!
Best wishes,
~J. -
