I long for the summer.
Where every day is a new day,
And every night lasts forever.
Where you can spend entire days outdoors,
Without any need to dress like you're going into outer space.
Where you can be free.
I long for freedom
The freedom to eat what I want, when I want,
The freedom to stay awake until the early hours of the morning
And sleep into the late afternoon.
Freedom from schedueles, classes, tardies, and homework.
The freedom to be myself.
I long for variety
To visit new places every day,
To meet new people,
To be able to drive out on a road trip,
And not have to return for days,
To have every day be a new adventure.
I long for the adventures.
Picking up crack dealing hitch-hikers from Denny's,
And having them teach you the art of con-art.
Chasing the prick who ran off with your friend's money
Through the streets of downtown.
Running from police with flashlights
In the darkness of the woods.
And as I look through my memories,
Reminiscing about all the great times I've had,
Remembering all of the things I've survived,
I feel the crater left in my chest.
Not a broken heart,
Not an ulcer,
But a desire.
The desire for variety.
The desire for adventure.
The desire for freedom.
And I realize,
That more than anything,
I long for the summer.
