Sail Through Life

I do not bother to pack a case-
I rush to the airport and catch a plane.
No need to wear anything
but the clothes on my back.

I will revisit the places of my childhood
the comforting houses, the grand old oak trees,
I will return to the bosom of the deep South
and find comfort in her soul.

I will find a sailboat
and take it to the open water,
dangle my legs in the water
as I taste the salty wind

I will swim in the ocean
and not think of all I could have done,
would have done-
no regrets.
I'm finally going home.

And as the sun sinks down
out upon the deep
in the bower of my sails
I settle down to sleep.

And when the dawn awakens
I'll be sailing for grander shores
they'll find me, still asail
with eyes toward the sunrise.

Author notes

This isn't necessarily what I would do, but what a good friend of mine would. She loves sailing.
