Growing up in a small town
Many years ago
My family didn’t have much
But this I know;
We had each other,
We had our health,
And we had our pride
But very little else,
We had a strong sense of sibling unity,
The love we had was very strong you see,
We had to pull together
And look out for one another,
Because dad was rarely there
And my exhausted mother
Could barley make ends meet
So we had to pitch in,
We refused to be beat,
We never gave in,
We always kept our heads up,
We did not whine,
Never did we give up
During those trying times.

Wow, what a testimony to some very strong family bonds. It's an amazing gift to have siblings you can count on, ones that will never give up on you. This is a beautiful poem.
