The birds were all lined up on the telephone wires
They were waiting for Woodstock, the concert,
The first to the wire had backstage passes
The last had to all sit in the dirt
Anticipation was a buzzing in the air
For The Budweiser Frogs were going to croak,
Scalpers were perched all over the place
Selling tickets even to the broke
The Budweiser Frogs were in town for the concert
The Geico Lizard was their back up band,
They were famous throughout the circuit
And animals were coming from all over the land
The trout were getting prettied up backstage
Scales, was the fashion of the night,
The man in the moon watched through binoculars
See he had the best seat, big and bright
The Thunderbirds were first on the stage
Chirping, squawking, trout dancing the twist,
The mosh pit was full to the brim
Smokey The Bear was on duty to assist
The Cardinals were chirping as backup singers
The woodpecker was pecking his bass drum,
A crane was playing an upright bass
Miles and miles they had flown from
A tuna was plucking a salmon colored Les Paul
The Minnows sang backup for this band,
A swordfish plunked away on the keyboards
And a squirrel sang, it was heard throughout the land
Weird, this congregation of critters
Had come together for this concert to be,
And then there was one more awesome act
The curtains opened, Jessica Simpson sang with The Chicken of The Sea
They were waiting for Woodstock, the concert,
The first to the wire had backstage passes
The last had to all sit in the dirt

I haven't a clue where this one came from! I guess due to my husband's band.

A very enjoyable and fun poem to read, but we felt that the rhythm was not consistant enough, but thank you for your entry.

hahah, what?
this was fun and I enjoyed it a lot.

Fun!
This poem has lots of cute images and the rhymes are clear. It has the surreal quality of one of those old 1930s cartoons where the normal stuff is animals playing instruments, but then there's some really weird stuff going on....
This poem doesn't really try to achieve a meter. If it did, it might sound something like this:
The Budweiser Frogs were in town for the concert
With Charlie the Tuna on keyboards and bass.
Their fame had preceded them, everyone loved them!
The creatures streamed in from all over the place.
It's possible that as you wrote this, you heard a beat in your head that accompanied the poem, and as you recite it you adjust the speed of certain words so that they arrive on the correct beat (like a rap song). Unfortunately, I can't hear the beat that you hear - if you want the meter to be consistent, it has to be built into the language.
I know this is a prewrite, so I wouldn't change it, but for this contest you might consider writing a new poem with the goal of matching the meter to the creatures.
Thanks for entering. :-) -
cutely funny
I love animals. And this is so cute! I think my favorite part of course would be the last line. LOL Jessica Simpson, nice. I believe that the randomeness of this poem is what makes it the funniest! Great job!

Thank you for the entry... I come up with random ideas for poems sometimes and it's just an 'idea' which just comes out and flows alright in the end.

Haha this was such a humorous poem! It was cute and I love the image you set in my head, which you did brilliantly - you really brought animals to life in this one. And the Jessica Simpson quote at the end just rounded it off with the same humour. =P What sort of band is your husband in? (just curious) Good luck in the contest <3
