Within the Murmur of my Heart

Missing image
(For my Grandmother, Isabella Elizabeth)

Not at the healing waters of Lourdes,
Chalice Well or some unknown spa;
also not at the navel of the world
where Tigris and Euphrates meet ...

but -- in the murmur of my heart: memories
of waves sing to the waters of the ancient
eye, a sound which heals all scars of souls
carried by River Divine.

Yes -- within the well of memory
the sacred fountain remembers its origin;
its beginning and its end. Its Beginning.
Oh, holy Temple, ascend within the mists

of Living Water -- dancing, my soul becomes the flow
of colorful music; balustraded balconies drawn
by geometrical songs of healing light;
swirls within the vortex of everlasting youth:

Blessed Isabella Elizabeth:
memories within the murmur of my heart.

Author notes

My grandmother, Isabella Elizabeth, was the most pure soul I ever encountered on earth. Long before I met my children's father, the best friend of his father, who was a well-known preacher in the Southern Cape region, said my grandmother was a living angel.

She died as softly as she lived, at the age of 95 ... taken by angels. Right through my life she was the upliftment of my soul, the memory inside me, the visible Love divine, especially when hatred and abusiveness wanted to drown me.

She taught me that Love is the truest form of healing. Nothing can cure as Love does. Thank you for the opportunity to express the deepset love of my soul, for her, who manifested the Whisper in my blood, of Him, our Lord and Saviour.

    The joy of having one in our lives who means so much...words often can not explain just what's inside the ocean of our hearts...hopefully your grandmother is in heaven smiling down upon the dedication in her memory.

    I think this is an excellent piece of poetry - and I don't say that often!

    People often write about their parents and grandparents with mawkish sentimentality. You have managed to lift the subject three or four planes above that, and have done so with such imagery, but at the same time you have retained the intimacy.

    A very beautiful memory of someone who obviously touched your heart deeply. Does the world still produce such people? Yes, there are some, always waiting in the wings, you were very fortunate to have known one.

    This was absolutely beautiful. I know these feelings well. I felt the same for my grandmother. Unfortunately she passed away at 64, which is young. I have wonderful memories with her. I was her first grandchild and we had an exceptional bond with each other. I am now a grandmother myself and have established the same relationship with my grandaughter. I have a new one coming next month..so I am so excited.
    You have captured memories that will never leave your heart...
    You honored Isabella Elizabeth with your words.
    Stay well my friend,

    Wonderful!

    The title is perfect! It captured my attention in a snap. The words you pen here are beautifully soft and express such amazing emotion to the reader. It seems to soften and quiet the air around as one reads it. A wonderful tribute and a lovely expression. Well done and beyond! Thank you for sharing!

    You are a wonderful writer
    the more I read at AP the more i think you are among the true elite at this place.
    The beauty of your words and phrasing is enough to enchant, the content of the poems becomes almost secondary..I know that may not be what you want to hear
    but I read you like I hear music and carry away my own impressions

    Picture inspired poem huh? Well I must say this picture inspired you to write one of the best I have ever seen. Words can not do justice to all the beautiful thoughts penned here. I am truly in awe and I’m book marking this one. Your muse deserves the night off.

    My favorite part started with "Not" and ended with "heart." You do it once again. You pull me by the ear until I see a new perspective. Then you let go and leave me to find my own way back. That can be troublesome, but I get over it. Three captivated bunnies!

    While the brightest minds of science all over the world race to be the one who discovered the alledged god-particle (the Higgs-boson) to secure for themselves a place in the Nobel Prize annals, you have already found more than the entire circus of science will ever find without any of the complex contraptions they use in their research operation. Ack,

    Chris
