Something I Learned From My Mom (one sentence)

The only times I really regret with my kids is when I felt in my gut they shouldn’t do something and I let them do it anyway, something always ended up happening.

Author notes

My mom said this a LONG time ago and probably doesn't even remember it, now she regrets so much more, but that statement stuck with me and I have followed it when raising my daughter and it has worked for me. Now, I guess we can't prove something would have happened for sure if I had let her do certain things, but there have been times where I felt strongly she should not do something, not because of the situation necessarily, but a strong gut feeling, and have never regretted those moments that I didn't let her do something because of it, even if it seemed unreasonable at the time. There weren't a lot of situations, but when they arose I followed my gut instinct, which is to me a gift that God gave us to be aware of danger.

    AMEM to this advice!

YES!! We know, don't we? But then we hate being the "heavy" so we go light on them and then we regret it later. Thank you for sharing your fine advice!

I know! But, I don't really have a problem being the heavy... I'm a hard ass and proud of it... haha! Alright, alright... I have spent many nights in my room crying 'cause I was the heavy... I admit it! More when she was younger, actually, I think I got used to it and it didn't bother me as much anymore, but those darn little kids do have a way of pushing buttons with their little faces and tears and such. Enjoy your contest, Melodies, my dear!

Thank you, Kari Leigh Kanari. I think we should all follow our instincts, but it's harder when you are making the decision for someone else instead of just yourself. MommaNut

Gut instincts or what I like to call...
Psychic indigestion, has and always will be a mothers
best defense against her child's stupidity.
Yeah For Mothers!!! we'd all have umpteen broken
    arms and legs without them.
P.S. of course I broke my arm three different times
before I was even 10 years old, hmmmm? I think
my mother must have been on a psychic diet at the time.
Well Miss Buddy you seem to have it all together
    good work. laurie.

Haha! Psychic indigestion! Sounds accurate! You broke your arm three times by the time you were 10?!?! What the heck! Ashley broke her knee playing basketball when she was 13, was fighting for a ball, fell on the ground, and stayed there. Turns out she broke off one of the knobs on the end of her femur, OUCH! I got pictures during surgery, I could scan them and send them to you.
