The Roman Feather

Crisp, cold, in the misty morning air
Dawn upon the edge of daybreaks death glare.
The forsight of hindsight in our day from our night
Would have kept me resting upon the edge of His light
With a breath that ends before even started
I'll need a prayer to exalt as a faithful departed.

Gold that glitters in the mourning Son
Can not hide the stains. I have succumb
To the vapor, I will rest my weary head
And breath the breath of the valiant dead.
Belief in the weight I bore with pride
Defense from the dagger I have defied!

There in the air of the hymnal souls
Whose teathers still drape across the coals
Lit from the flesh of the legions bones
There soars a feather of our passions' tone.
Unable to kneel and weep, it keeps me still
Exhaled...into the bed of my free will.

Enveloping silence while the whispers fade
As they've stopped prancing in their masquerade
Those idle dances and forgotten masks
Are bound to sleep at the end of their tasks
Their shine dimmed, an inevitable fall
From the feather that stood against them all.

Still graceful in the dark, consumed
The satin feather from the bloodshed bloomed
Upon a slab of stone the soiled white
Can still believe in the feathers' flight
Majestic in merchants' skin returned
At peace in my eyes the feather burned
