Pan

In leafy grove, one lovely day, I heard a flute sing near.
A sound that, like a serpent song, did sly ensnare my ear.
And at that sound I looked around, and was surprised to see...
There, through the trees, I saw someone, who danced alone for me.

He was a bonny, handsome lad, that almost was a man.
I knew beyond the slightest doubt that he was surely Pan.
Upon his flute of reeds he played, then smiled to draw me near,
his eyes so full of love for me that I could have no fear.

He sang, "Arise, come dance with me, my long awaited one!
For past is rotted with the weeds, and future not begun.
Eternity we hold, my love, in shining instant clear,
so let this grassy carpet be our bower and our bier."

We circled, laughing, o'er the grass, like flowers we did flow.
He caught his arm around my waist and then he laid me low.
He pressed his hand upon my breast, we kissed with lips afire,
and there upon that grassy sward I yielded to desire.

And now that I am grown quite old, and soon must go away,
my memories alone consist of but that bygone day.
And when I hear the lilt of flute or see a bonny man
I live again that lovely day, when once I danced with Pan.

    Excellent!

When I read good poetry I recite it with a bit of envy, thinking, wish I composed it.
If I may be permitted to instill a little humor. I would have loved to had been there seeing you making love to a god having a human torso and head with a goat's legs, horns, and ears....lol

Absolutely magical! I love this vision of Pan & that you combine it with sweet memory, bonny men, & music!
But the line that really stands out to me is:
"For past is rotted with the weeds, and future not begun"~~it imparts such a wisdom of how life really is lived. Thank-you for writing such beautiful lore.
