Just another day
In the city that never sleeps
Car horns...
People in a rush...
Ambulence sirens...
Traffic...
Taxis...
Walk.
Don’t walk.
Walk.
Don’t walk.
[jaywalk]
Walk.
Don’t walk.
Walk.
Don’t walk.
.. JUMP ..
Tires screech
A piercing scream
Whiplash
S i l e n c e
From the sidewalk
A timid voice dares to speak.
"What happened?"
Doors open.
A driver steps out
Somehow, his wave of nausea is forced back
Unlike the blood running over his tires
His hands suddenly tremble on their own
"What have I done..."
A woman can be seen
Running toward the scene
She sees the car
She sees the blood
She stops dead in her tracks
Her face is numb.
She cries,
"MY BABY...MY BABY...WHY...??"
Author notes
Every so often I get so depressed that I'll be tempted to jump in the middle of speeding traffic...but I'd never go through with it.
Because I know what would happen afterwards.
