The Mighty Superman

Born under Krypton's giant red Sun
Last survivor of an alien race
Sent on his way by parent's devoted
Hurtling through the vast empty reaches of space

Launched on a journey to ensure his survival
Greeted with love upon his arrival
Adopted as family by farmers called Kent
The world would soon know why young Kal-el had been sent

His father..Jor-el sat on Krypton's High Council
As a scientist and scholar his advice was much sought
But for once his great peers poured scorn on his findings
That their planet was doomed they dismissed without thought

Jor-el and his wife smiled and promised each other
The baby they created from the fount of their love
Would be safe from all harm that would visit their planet
When their world faced destruction by the Sun up above

When the day of destruction had finally dawned
The infant was placed within a strange craft
Powered by crystals to sustain his life force
They watched it with love as it rose far aloft

Accelerating away from the home of his Father
It's limitless speed propelling him on
Travelling through so many dimensions
Teaching the knowledge of where he came from

As it reached the Earth system the craft compensated
Adjusting its speed whilst still checking its charts
It selected a course to bring him down gently
A thinking creation by the sum of its parts

After the impact a child emerged safely
He ran to a couple who witnessed the deed
They knew he was different...had no one to love him
They gave him a home and the care he would need

As the years they rolled by he worked with his 'father'
He had a small farm in a mid western state
One day without warning his father was taken
He comforted his 'mother' but time wouldnt wait

His heart was sore troubled by his powers amazing
He kept them all secret save for a few
By the time he reached manhood his urge for exploring
Had come to a point where he must know what to do

He gathered the crystals his Father had sent him
He made his farewells to all those that he knew
He held his dear mother and left with her blessing
It was time to discover what he had to do

He followed the voices of Krypton within him
They guided his way to the place he should be
Far to the North he took out the crystal
He threw it ahead till it fell in the sea

It bubbled and boiled and seethed like a cauldron
Constructing a fortress of solitude for him
It was here he would find all the things that were missing
It was here he would learn from his own kith and kin

Twelve years would pass before his journey was over
Then he returned to this Earth as his Father's plan
He would fight for the good and battle all evil
And forever be known as...the mighty Superman!

My god, the quality in this contest just keeps going up. This is really excellent and shows you have a very detailed knowledge of Superman. You told his story very well, the rhyme and flow were also great. Thanks for making it even harder to judge (and I've only had 12 entries so far!) Hehe. Thanks again, good luck and take care x

I love to see this in poetic form, I do have a fascination for superman, but when Christopher Reeve played him, just not the same anymore... this is a fabulous way you've portrayed the story

      Thanks Cannonsfire

Im having trouble getting into it right now as Ive too many irons in the proverbial fire at the moment...too many other things inspiring me...so Ill leave it until I feel the urge again...like the crystals that called out when it was time to leave Smallville...ah well...thats life I guess!...regards and many thanks...Dan xx

Yeah have to admit a work in progress..the man of steel been around for a few years now. Your words take me back to the movie and the t.v. series. You have a good rhyme happening and your imagery worthy of the capped one himself. Nicely penned dan and the hero of the day is .....superdan ...i have not fogotten....
