The Great South Land

Over long-lost land bridges,
or on primitive rafts driven by
tidal currents from the north,
came the first natives of Australia.

Bringing with them little
save for their dingo dogs and their
weapons to supplement their
ability to hunt and gather.

They invented no wheel,
built no stone walls,
planted no crops,
asked little of their new land.

But did develop a primitive art
and a mythology called 'The Dreamtime'
which in more recent times white settlers
have called 'The Black Genesis'.

It was amongst these dark skinned settlers,
that the white men, unknowing the riches
which lay beneath its apparently barren surface,
came to settle in 1788.

I do not agree with this poem... the begining of this poem gives the impression that aboriginals came from another land, well maybe but millions of years earlier... they did not bring with them dingo's and weapons... Dingo's where traded with malaysia... Aboriginal people are the true owners of this land, this poem gives the impression that white man had justification for murdering thousands of indigenous men, women and children... "the Dreamtime" is not a primative art, it is this countries original culture, religion.. This poem is quite offensive to Aboriginal people, it does not speak truth at all.
sorry, it is sad to think that this is what people think.

This is a strong write about wonderful people,
    They invented no wheel,
    built no stone walls,
    planted no crops,
asked little of their new land.

    I loved this bit,
Best of luck in the contest
