I look across the room
And stare into the stars
Wondering if he's really there
He always seems so far
They say have faith
They say to pray
Live your life in his way
And in the end it always pays
For me it's hard
To try to see
An invisible man
Who cannot be
But now I know
He's in my heart
Not in the stars
He's me, in part
It's a pain to remember
That horrible day
When my world crashed down
I had nothing to say
A tall old man
Tired from work
He fell to the ground
His heart ceased to work
My granddad was gone
I couldn't believe he died
My dreams were shattered
I constantly cried
Then I heard the soft word
Like the coo of a bird
My heart leaped within
This is what I heard:
I said a prayer for you today
And I know God must have heard
I felt the answer within my heart
Although he spoke no word
I did not ask for wealth or fame
I knew you wouldn't mind
Instead I asked for treasures
Of a far more lasting kind
I asked that he be near you
At the start of each new day
To grant you health and blessings
And friends to share your way
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small
But it was for his loving care
I prayed for most of all

Very beautiful!
It is kind of sad, but sometimes sadness and pain bring about the most beautiful poetry.
Keep up the good work!
I'd love to read more from you in the future!

this is really a beautiful piece!
They say have faith
They say to pray
Live your life in his way
And in the end it always pays
at the ending of your poem it definitely shows that praying alwayz pays in the end..
your grandpa would have been proud to read this . this is really touching and it made me want to keep on reading it.

Touching
This is so touching to read, I can really feel just how much he meant to you. This is a beautiful poem I'm sure he would be overjoyed to know you feel this way. I loved the stanza
But now I know
He's in my heart
Not in the stars
He's me, in part
So true, he will always be part of you and live on throughout your memories and actions. I'm sorry for your loss, this is a very special poem.
All the best, and good luck.

(okay, i see you put the quote into your preview...but put it into your notes instead. i over looked it, and that's why I have not commented until today-just saw it
)
There's a lot of love here, although i'm trying to see how Gandhi's quote fits. I guess because you're choosing to not be hurt, but rather embrace the memories of your lost grandfather. Okay, I can see it now.
Good luck in my contest
