Roma aeterna

A river flows peacefully on to the sea
But on its banks history's made
And though the inhabitants die and are born
This famed city's ruins have stayed

The greatest of peoples did walk on those banks
On paved streets, through arches of stone
From thence onward warriors marched out to war
Today all the remnants are gone

And under this Mediterranean sky
Great churches were built and still stand
This peace and the silence inside are surreal
At once it is humble and grand

I've walked through these streets of this magical town
It felt as if I had come home
My heart yearns to just see those places again
This heavenly city of Rome

Author notes

Basically a try to put my longing for Rome into words. I was there in the summer and it was so amazing. Every time I think about it I get all teary and sentimental. For me it was like a dream come true.

Please tell me what you think

When i saw the title, I thought this was going to be another Latin poem. But it was really great though.
This flow is wonderful throughout the whole poem. A very enjoyable read.
    Keep up the great work!
