Contemplating immorality,
it seems we all need something
to believe in.
A Christian God
what branch would
you choose?
Catholic, Peoples, or All Dominations?
Maybe another religion would fit your life,
one that teaches of higher powers
and inner peace.
Wait now don't they all end up on similar grounds?
To live for ones self or for other's.
Was it God's, or was it mans?
Illustration of what to believe
older then time can be seen,
Sun gods, and of Zeus.
Talk of faith and heaven gates.
How can I believe in something man
recreated to control one another.
Life rules that are common sense.
Jesus loves me this we are told,
is it because some man said so?
Faith is what I was told to have,
in translations of a old man?
Perspective of defective life
spiritual yet objective,
passive intentionally of criticism
in what so many already believe
just in metaphor.
Now what do I really believe?
Is it God or is it man.
Maybe I only now believe in me.
Author notes
I was raised Christian and I have to say this still to this day it is my base. I have studied many different religions, Native American, Christian, Mormon's, White Craft, Voo doo, ancient and on and on a little here and there. One thing I always find in the teaching of any religion is that the basses are all the same, well most with the under line. Who is right I don't know, I will ask my self till the day I find my answer. I believe in the history of so many of them and the idea is beautiful in even much more. I did not write this to rub anyone wrong it's just my own spiritual war. I had faith once in what I was raised to believe, after what I have been through and watch my family go through because of the Churches attended I don't know how if God is real can live and work through defective men and woman of GOD.

spiritual yet objective
YES! That's why I am Spiritual and not Religious...
big difference but not too many experience it. We are taught to be a flock and let "Others" close to God lead. These special men and women are no different from you and me...we are all equal in our Divinity! Very well put and I love the exploration still going on here. Blue

I too have looked at many religions, and I follow Catholicism because it seemes to amke the most sence to me, be the closest to the truth, but really, I sort of have my own religion, it is God, but I don't worship or pray in the ways that a "good" catholic does, I don't go to church every sunday, I don't use the rosery, I do things my own way. I believe God exists, but I love him my way, not someone elses way.

There is a lot of conflict and confusion in this poem - questioning yourself again and again.
The search for what is right and true is never easy and i admire your courage to ask yourself these questions so many dont take the time to think and just run down religion without knowing anything about it.
I can tell a lot has happened to you to make you question this - but can also tell that you are a good person and that someday you will find your answers!
And for now believing in yourself is enough - and is a lot more than most people
If you can believe in yourself and in goodness and love then you will be happy and fulfilled! -
This is me through and through. All these relgions competing to be true, but dont they all have the same outcome....love it

This is a beautiful write. I love it when poets just let their feelings all flow on to paper (or computer in this case, haha). You've spoken the truth, and expressed yourself beautifully. My favourite lines are...
"How can I believe in something man
recreated to control one another."
And...
"Jesus loves me this we are told,
is it because some man said so?"
I personally don't belong to any religion, I'm a spiritual person and I do believe that everybody should have their own views. Though I dislike it when you're pressured to "believe" in one certain religion.
I find it interesting to learn about different types of religion, different cultures and societies.
Much like and love =)

This is excellent, the way you've expressed your views of religion in this piece is very well done. It's not enough to be offensive, it is thought provoking and everyone has the right to their opinion. Well done, keep up the good work.

Right,, Maybe, Wrong...
God can be likened to the sand of a beach
and religion comes along and scoops up one bucketful
and says, "Follow me, for I know God."
Personally I look at the entire beach, for there are
bits within each bucket, but none is all inclusive.
Just as I can travel from LA to NYC a thousand different ways, so too can I know God.
As I look at it there is always duality. They are the pures of existance and anything not pure is of mans making trying to get their own way, those "gray" areas.
Either you love me or you don't, there is no middle ground, for love either exists or it doesn't. man refuses to look in terms or black and white because it takes away his game.
We live in the past, present and future all at once.
Time passes because of limited mind and it's processing.
Think of trying to pour an ocean into your head through
a funnel. You can only comprend bit by bit. During dreams we are freed from this process and see as a whole. We have not to "learn" but only to "realize"
for it has always been there.
Life is cause and effect, action and REaction. If your best friend dies Friday but you don't find out till Monday, where was your grief. It was not the death, but your REaction to the death. We can't control what comes, the action, but we can always control our REaction, and therein lies our greatest power.
Like a reed in a hurricane I will bend for I know with time that it too will pass...
A vase that is full can receive no more, just as a heart that is filled with hate, it must be emptied in order to receive anything more...
When mind AND heart agree we have peace, when either is in disagreement we have disharmony.
If you have a specific or general question fill free to ask and I'll give you MY take on it.
Hugs...Eddy

Thought-provoking piece
This is a very thought-provoking piece of writing. This is a question that has come up time and again. Does God exist? and is all religion just 'man-made?' Myself, I feel that God, does exist, within every living thing. The trouble is Man, has muddied the waters of His teachings.
Only picking and choosing certain passages from Holy Books, which he thinks would suit any given situation. Also twisting the Words of God, to mean something else, completely different.
I love your piece here. It is full of questions - with very little by the way of answers. But that is what religion is all about, a lot of questions.
I feel that God will only reveal Himself, to those with an 'open' mind and simple heart. Thanks for this great piece.

I really understand what you are saying. I am a Roman Cahtolic and some stuff I do not believe in and others i don't. But I was told that u can't pick and choose what you want. I look at it like this religion was created by man,but as long as you're commited to God and don't lose focus you should be alrite.Nice write very thought provoking and this matter needed to be addressed.

i have problems with what to believe and what not to believe
-
Deep and spiritual
I sense in this a spiritual searching, the one that consumes everyone if they admit it to themselves. The basic premise is that if you have faith and live according to that faith as much as possible you cannot go wrong. Good read!

Very nice poem. I am glad that you know whats for you. I myself am a Christian but I have a lot to learn about religion. It's nice that you have studied so many religions that you can make an educated opinion. Great write, Keep up the good work.
