"13 Carat-plated Heart"

fascinated by your flattery
wondering at my shiny-hearted loving
becoming an object to crave and wave in the air
my young body was your dripping canvas
your painted little lady at sweet thirteen
blindfolded in the day, handcuffed to lust
remembering what the sun feels like in your arms
this "love is real as the day is long"
you whispered in my ear and drove me out of control
"but the night is black,
black as night"
the moment of truth revealed by a lie
and I just can't close this closet door
that I've been trying to clean and string out
too many bones and shrunken heads
crushed into ash on concreted floor
once your pretty, pretty princess,
now the needy, green-eyed little bitch
time wasn't wasted with you,
no baby, it wasn't
'cause I learned exactly what I needed
to survive the next "love" of my life
"love is real as the day is long" baby
"but the night is black, black as night"
(just like your heart and mine...)

Author notes

Lyrics used were from Chrome-plated heart by Melissa Ethridge
here's all of them:
I got a chrome-plated heart
I got wings on these fingers trying to tear it apart
I got angels crying from up above
And they got rust in their eyes
They got rust on their love
But I have learned to leave no stone unturned
And keep the wall against my back
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night

I got a two dollar stare
Midas in my touch and Delilah in my hair
I got bad intentions on the soles of my shoes
With this red hot fever and these chromium blues
And I will feel another lovers wheel
And drive for miles and not look back
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night

And I'll dance in time and the times are rough
And I'll pay the price and I'll pray that it's enough
And just outside the door where it always rains
I'll take the time to polish these scratches and these stains

On my chrome-plated heart
Wings on these fingers trying to tear it apart
I got angels crying from up above
And they got rust in their eyes
They got rust on their love
And the only way I know where the train will go
Is when I'm sleeping on the tracks
And the love is real as the day is long
And the night is black
As black as night
And the night is black
As black as night

this poem was fascinating. it was spell binding.

and the lyrics worked FLAWLESSLY with the situation you wrote about. and they even held your voice and flowed naturally entwined in your piece.

this made my heart fall to pieces and I would read it over and over again because I'm addicted to heartbreak.

good luck in the contest. though I doubt you'll need it
