Handfuls of God -Silver

Missing image
Something about warm earth causes man to lie down,
take handfuls of soft brown into palms,
carry fistful of fine sod to nose
and Earth will carry him away
to a land of his own, where corn weaves
like seven-veiled sisters, or ten bangled dancers
jingling gold on their breasts, or a lactating mother.
Such fantasies the smell of soil gives to man of any age.

Thank you, Gaylene. I see a punctuation problem and will fix it now the contest is over. This took me to a loving beautiful place.

    Captivating write!

Imagery and emotion stand tall here with content to consume the readers thoughts and emotions. Well done to write about the message of one true reality of man & earth. As many have never known this feeling. I have and sincerely agree with you in this wonderful poem. You have touched many that have had the opportunity to know this comfoting feeling of our existance on this planet.

What an inspirational write...the scent of fresh soil indeed, I love it and as you say it transports to so many different places and brings memories and dreams of so many things. This made me wish for spring , so I can dig into it again , instead of trying to shovel through the ice and snow (it is no longer pretty-just brown and dirty with exhaust fumes now) Best wishes my friend ...I really enjoyed

thank you, my friend. We are so very connected to the land. I have been working with Barbara Gill on "Soul Gifts", and much discussion has been aroudn the role of men in the hoop of hope. I can give names of men, right here on AP, that are the kind of men to help move this hoop into being. This poem speaks to those men.

Yes, I had a strong sensual memory of that deep rich smell of good earth as I wrote it.
