Torments of the Here and Now

Strophe 1:
I almost didn’t think of you today
But here you are my dear.
I promised myself there would be days
Completely without you. I fear
You’ve manifested yourself in too many
I didn’t treat him so well, that last one.    It’s plenty
Clear you’re hiding in the moon
So I rip you from the sky
To watch the Earth from here and wonder why
You must appear, A Doctor
To look me in the eye
“I know what it is now,” you say,
“You’ll never fell it.”
“Feel what?” I could hear the moon sway.
“Anything.”
You disappear like smoke between the fingers.
“I love you.”
Tears stream.
It’s never true.

Chorus:
Awkward moments one after the next
Like lights swishing by from the U-Bahnetz.

Strophe 2:
They float down in bubbles to the silken street
Begging for a hand to touch
As the fingers fumble, then drift to meet
The filmy bubble busts-
Leaving her alone.
City lights shine so brightly here.
The world around one girl appears so clear-
                                          -ly,
But star-lit skies
Look blank to eyes
That see how far
We really are
From them
So dim.

Chorus:
Awkward moments one after the next
Like lights swishing by from the U-Bahnetz.

Strophe 3:
In the softly simmering mist I stand
Pretending pretentiously to know
When the truth is this land
Holds lies we till and sow.
We watch them grow
To as big as a hill like a white elephant. So
Where do we go from here?
Back to the silent pier
Where the seductive sea is silenced by the silver sail off north by northeast;
A spirit ship released
To guide me so I may misplace yet another prepared face,
To hide me among the tepid waves, so grave.

Chorus:
Awkward moments one after the next
Like lights swishing by from the U-Bahnetz.

Finale:
Welling, welling
I feel the days
Swelling, swelling
In the nave
Of my neck, but I suspect
All they endow-
-are the torments of the here and now.

Please tell me what you think

    Exquisite!

This is so beautiful! And it has a good length, it's good throughout. I liked the allusion to Hills like White Elephants, I just read the story a few weeks ago. You capture the poets perspective on the fleeting poignancy of the world. The stars glimmering...
    Welling, welling
    I feel the days
    Swelling, swelling
    In the nave
Of my neck, but I suspect
    All they endow-
-are the torments of the here and now.
    loved it!
    but what was the U-Bahnetz?

the U-Bahnetz is the German word for their Metro system. I'm glad you liked it and got the allusion. That makes me oh so happy.
