Prisoner...

being able to survive it
never made it ok
and being able to forgive
never made me forget
time after time
i am reminded of what happened
and no matter what i do
i do not get released
from the pain
forgive and forget
start with the same letter
but no where do they share the same path
twisted lies from my past
come screaming threw
chaining me up
like the prisoner
I'm meant to be...

Please tell me what you think

    I hear you

There is not one human being on this earth that doesnt have a past they wish they could forget .We all have been there and its the growing that makes you find the past you cannot change only the future as you grow you begin to see your life as you want it to be and in reaching for this you leave the past behind

How much I can relate to this!

    "forgive and forget
    start with the same letter
but no where do they share the same path"

All my life I've been forgiving one person or the other for things they've done but I have never been able to forget and it haunts me still!

    "twisted lies from my past
    come screaming threw"

It's like the movie "Jaws" just when you think you're safe...the past come's up to bite you!

    Thanks for sharing your pain

To link trees and survival is singularly appropriate - trees are the great survivors - indeed, the oldest living things on the planet are trees. You've illustrated the parallel with great thoughtfulness and charm. Mike

Ohhh you have no idea how much I can relate to this poem hun!!

Forgiving frees US from the hold it has... yet forgetting is never possible!

It always still binds us to some degree... I'm sorry you know this kind of pain

This makes me think of the things that I went through with my mother growing up. I feel your words as if they were my from my own mouth.

such emotion, sadness, hate, anger and despair, can be felt in this poem.. It is kind of blunt, which suits the mood... i like..."twisted lies from my past come screaming threw chaining me up."... this line says it all, 'prisinor' of ones own dark memories.. well written!!

Wow! Hmm, this reminded me of the Dixie Chicks song, "Not Ready to Make Nice," only because of the whole forgive and forget comparison part. This was a real good poem, and I could tell that you wrote it from the soul. Keep writing!

    *snap*
