Mid-February (07)

Mid-February (07).

I've heard the rattle of the woodpecker,
Which the Welsh call: 'Y gaseg o wanwyn;
'Caseg o wanwyn'(s) rattle did occur,
The first clip-clopping of 'The mare of spring'.
Hoarse rooks, as you may know, are nesting now,
Their clamour might be heard near to tall trees;
They make as much noise as their throats allow;
Or as much racket as their dark pates please.
Daffodils are blooming, but only just;
There's time yet to open their blithe bonnets;
About two months those yellow heads to thrust;
Which even than the rooks contain less wits.
Middle Feb. can be either cold or warm.
A time in which we see the young year form.

Please tell me what you think
