I remember the ol' Kansas farm
lil' white house with a big red barn
On yonder, you could see forever
with childs' eye, golden fields, a treasure
And Grandpas shoulders swayed to and fro
with each short step, as I'd watched him go
grasping with his hand from his trouser pocket
peanuts, one by one, in his mouth, he'd pop 'em
Grandma cookin in the kitchen, beans in a pot
fryin taters and chicken to feed the lot
singin songs of praise as she cooked the meal
I'll never forget how that made me feel
A secret compartment 'neath the bottom stair
and a bunch of toys that were hiding in there
Grandpa eatin' peanuts, all the while
And on every face was a great big smile
This is the happy place within my mind
when peace and tranquility are hard to find
I just think of Grandpa, and his peanut snacks
then I close my eyes, and it takes me back
Back to that place where I was worry free
where I can reconnect with me
and remember the place that I loved best
and my Grandpa, who, now, is laid to rest
He's walking now on golden roads
with his shoulders swayin to and fro
he's waitin for grandma to join him there
with a pocket of peanuts, for, with her, to share
Please tell me what you think

excellent piece of work
i loved the emotion and imagery you put into the lines of this poem. It was very moving, and I can almost picture the old farmland, and your grandpa, eating peanuts out of his pocket while he walks through an open field...im sure hes in a better place now, waiting for everyone he loves to join him there and share his peanuts with everyone. keep up the excellent writing my friend.

SUCH SWEET AND BEAUTIFUL MEMORIES!
Ah, how you take me back to those carefree days of old.
How I have prayed and wished they could come back again.
This is just so beautiful and touching.

I had no grandpa with peanuts, but do have pleasant childhood memories, and this gave me lead to romp through them, anew. And for that, my deepest thanks. This is wonderful door to simpler times before adulthood stripped away all carefree airs, and I reveled in it. Thanks for the post, it was much enjoyed!

Rick
