My Bower at Huguelot Castle

I want a lot of light in my private little place
A contemporary sort of room, not a bunch of lace
A bookshelf, a table, with flowers in the middle
A piece of cheese, a glass of wine to imbibe in just a little

A side board would be nice, a place to put some favorite things
Like photographs and keepsakes, for which a smile brings
A pretty little settee with matching chair and coffee table
For friends to enjoy their tea or coffee whenever they are able

My kitchen must be somewhat modern, microwave for sure
And a refrigerator, as fast food I cannot long endure
Cupboards I will need, to store away each cup and dish
And don’t forget a percolator, for coffee when I wish

A cozy bed, not too soft, percale sheets, soft downy pillow
Outside my window, a couple of trees, one a weeping willow
And don't forget we must have comfy little mats
To please those furry bundles, the darling castle cats

A CD player for listening to all the music I so love
A gilded cage protecting from the cats, my precious dove
A Renoir for the hallway, a Monet hung by my bed
And don't forget my computer when I want poetry instead

The bath, now I am very picky, as you will plainly see
With whirlpool tub and shower and a comfy place to pee
Don’t forget a modern litterbox, the kind that is self cleaning
With privacy for the kitties as an audience is demeaning

I think that all of this will satisfy most every need
If I think of something more, I’ll let you know haste speed
I hope this is not too much to ask, my favorite King Hugh
You shall be my first guest, and you can bring Queen Edna, too
... or not

Sounds cozy. The perfect retreat. I liked this piece, it relaxed me somehow. Excellent use and turn of phrase, throughout. Glad I found it.

Great piece, I liked this a lot. At first I thought it was an ordinary house but as you continued I realised you were talking about a castle It seemed a lovely place to live, and for the cats too which is good (as I have a cat that would be one of my considerations too) You ended this quite humorously.
    Thanks for your comment

I was a little worried, I thought maybe the litterbox was for you...I wonder what it would be like? Oh, have to go...I want to go build one....

    I like your bower...wanna trade?

You know what I'd like? An automat right next to my easy chair. You know those things that have candy bars, soda, chips, sandwiches and stuff. Just drop in a coin and out pops lunch. I'd be king of the trailer trash!

If you had a human litterbox where would you put it...(if you were me?) Just doing research...

Humm....a self-cleaning litter box. I've always thought those looked great, but the ones I've seen are all so small, and my cats are so fat. I love the comfortable, no-nonsense rooms you've created, yet with that perfect touch of class in the Renoir and Monet.

    Good luck and best wishes,
    ~J.

    Is there a glitch here?

Dear Dee, I'm certain I commented on this before just like with some of the others, but it's not here.
Anyway a lovely entry and please do pop in for some devonshire tea when I have the King and Queen there, or at anytime that suits you.
    Hine.

Delightful verses, Dee! This is the kind of room I would like if I had not already decided on my spartan tower - not frilly but with little comforts. You are ever considerate, to make provision for the kitties. Good luck!

Auntie, your poem was really funny! Such generous king is this King Hugh! Give us his address and maybe he has something for this poor girl. Auntie, if he really gift such castle to you, don’t forget Massy! I promise not to be your guest more than 1 month. Then after that I’ll be another host
Thank you for the interesting poem you shared with us and I wish you best of luck in the contest

Thank you, Massy... Our King Hugh spoils us all with his generosity, even when we give him a hard time. This is a group contest poem as you can see and we're all having such fun decorating our bowers, expense not even a consideration

And you would be most welcome to come visit me anytime... just go away too soon

      love and
      Auntie Dee

Well, this sounds quite comfy. I am sure you will be warm and cozy in this Bower. You and the "kitties" that is. I loved the rhymes and the flow. This is definitely somewhere where one can kick up their feet and relax. The best to you in the challenge Dee.

    Always ♥

    Terrific Dee

    Dear Dee,
Wonderfully written and I like the way you've decorated your Bower. Go all out I say and have nothing but the best in our home away from home for the King has organized the cost of redecorating them.
And most certainly our Castle cat's need comfort too.
    Good luck.
    Jen.

    Can I visit?

Can I visit your lovely bower?
In the north, south, east or west tower?
    It sounds so inviting,
I'll bring more than one flower.

    Two for tea,
    Or maybe three,
    Cucumber sandwiches?
    I'll wait and see.

    You do paint a picture,
    Fit for a queen,
    With every fixture,
    I could almost scream!

    Arohanui,
    Petratani

You are most welcome, petratani, I look forward to your visits King Hugh has promised me a bower on the first floor so I'll not have to crawl up the stairs, and heights and I don't do well together for long. I can certainly manage the view from the upper bowers, though, so I hope to visit them often as well

And of course the castle cats will be making their daily rounds throughout the castle. I think mice are not their ultimate goal, though... I bet they're going to be on the lookout for some tasty goodies put out for them by the kindly and generous occupants of the other bowers.

    Bravo!!! Bravo!!! Bravo!!!

Dee, Let it be known from this day forth that you are the new Queen of HUGUELOT Castle as far as I'm concerned. This was absolutely brilliant my dear sweet friend. Not a word was out of place, your rhythm and rhyming were spectacular, not one thing was forced. It flowed effortlessly as I felt I was singing a tune while reading this piece. You are amazing and I have no other word to describe it after what I just read. Thank you ever so much for sharing this masterpiece and I wish you the best in the contest with what sounds like the gold to me. Kudos, I'm breathless!!!!! Love and God bless, Joyce

    Dear KOTCC

Thankyou for your entry in this Huguenauties contest.
As I do not own a computer but use Hugh’s from time to time, I have asked Hugh to comment on my behalf on each entry to save my travelling across town each time.
Thankyou for understanding and excusing me.
    Good luck in the contest.
    Love, Heathcote.

I love what you have designed for your Bower, and definitely you'll need comfort for the Castle cat's, they have to be considered too.

    Dear KOTCC (Dee)

Because you entered soon as you were able
so you can sleep in comfort with your cats,
we've moved your double bed out of the stable
away from all the crawlies and the bats.

Because, of all my favourites, you were first
we've put your suite down on the lower floor
so you will have the best and not the worst
and won't be climbing lots of steps no more.

Because you ask for shower as well as bath
we're not quite sure about your lavatree
for, reading your request in aftermath,
d'you mean the bath is where you want to pee?

No problem with the glass of wine or cheese
or with the mats or comfy bed and pillow
but there's no room to plant those extra trees
and mountain air's no good for weeping willow.

The rest of your requests are reasonable
and Edna says that it is quite alright
for King to visit you when seasonable
but NOT when you are in your bed at night!

If I may ask without appearing rude,
D'you want your Monet absolutely nude?

Thanks for your great entry. Best of luck in the contest.
Applause, Love and hugs XXX Hugh R.

You are so considerate, King Hugh And as for the weeping willow... You could wave your magic wand, decree that a weeping willow must indeed grow outside my window... you can do it, I know you can... pretty please

      love and
      Dee
