Pegasus in Industry

Missing image
  In my idle mythological flight
I gaze upon the transforming earth
to see its many changing faces
    as myth and legend time erases;
then there my heart is touched to see
    my long-lost name in industry…

Let us don our industry-spectrum-tuned equestrian glasses
to see what products honor me and my distant mythological glories…

The wonder!
An efficient robotic system
for cleaning the cages
of valuable DNA-manipulated and transgenic rodents,
the "Pegasus Cage Cleaning Robot"!

So, my name of Pegasus,
yet in flight and spirit,
is befit for modern-day laboratory animal facilities
lending itself to a technological marvel
that is exquisitely designed to reduce occupational health problems.
What a great mechanism. Beat that, Zeus!

  As I fly, gazing down… gazing down…

What is that I spy
at the strip-mall down yon
upon the winding trail of Route 40?
Why, it’s a... let me read the sign...

"Pegasus Bookstore and Stationery..."

I have been immortalized with a Book and Stationery store!
A fine addition to my growing legend…
"Computer hardware, software,
and fine stationery to record my majestic deeds.
Stop by and enjoy a cup of Java!"

Ah, the gods never had it so good on Mt. Olympus…

  I fly with grace
    the human race
  ever busy under me
    affixing stickily there my name
already wide with legend and fame
    on the face of industry…

and what is this?
Is it my Mother Medusa reincarnate?

No, it's just the Pegasus payphone.
It does bear a minimal resemblance to me…
but it lacks my graceful lines and features.
Such a repulsive creature!
I shall drop mementoes upon it hideous carcass…

Now you may be wondering what sneakers these are that I am wearing…

Nike Pegasus, naturally.

As I soar through eons wide
and just when I was feeling low-
  gone the myth-days, long ago-
I find, to my long-lasting joys
that I (and myth) are honored with
our names on useful tools and toys…

a Pegasus bicycle built for two…

finely-crafted Pegasus jeweled wristwatches…

a speedy Pegasus speedboat…

a Pegasus down-insulated jacket with zipper pockets…

an ultra-modern Pegasus mobile note taker made by the evil giant, Microsoft
(remind me to slay that monsterous blight on technical progress and innovation)…

a Pegasus wireless router with a one-year limited manufacturer's warranty…

even overstocked books using my celebrated name to sell, sell, sell…

  The land was barren,
    lone I came,
  born of mythical legend and fame;
first was I and now I'm 'us'-
  the world's replete
    with Pegasus…

Pegasus Barbie books of the cutest button-nosed order…

Pegasus Diaper Stickers to inspire future heros…

and my personal favorite,

a petite Pegasus rocking horse…

  Ah, father Poseidon, mother Medusa
    your son is well,
  his fame is wide,
    ever among the shining stars,
  his golden bridle gleaming high
at the ecliptic above the trees
  in the wintery
    northern skies…

Art and science have harnessed here
the thundering wing-ed horse of Jove
  as neither Athena’s gilded bridle
nor Bellerophone's great hands could hold-

The lightening bolts I've carried long,
    once reserved for mighty Zeus,
now light the human towns' facades
in a whole new way that light is used
  ne'er envisioned
    by the gods…

Even a site of poetry!
How glad can this god-steed be!
as I…

“Saw the moon rise o’er the landscape,
    Saw the tranquil, patient stars;”

yes… but what is this that this tale tells?
I was chained? being sold as a stray
in a typical 19th century American workingman's town?

Ah, well, a bit of the wine-o'-the-gods, perhaps,
had led me to such an ignoble predicament…

Ah, as I read, I see I did escape,
and flew my course back to the heavens.
Such a fitting fabled ending!

So here, I, Pegasus, of legend and myth,
shall share the end of that tale with you,
as so too does our journey together here end. Fare thee well…

(we enter the poem near its end, after I have escaped my unfortunate bonds...)

“But they found upon their greensward
Where my struggling hooves had trod,
Pure and bright, a fountain flowing
From the hoof-marks in the sod.

From that hour, the fount unfailing
    Gladdens the whole region round,
Strengthing all who drink its waters,
While it soothes them with its sound.”

Henry Wadsworth Longfellow
“Pegasus In Pound”

How Pegasus relates to me- Pegasus was a noble steed, I am noble indeed; he honor's industry rather than knocks it down as is the wont today; same with I; he is a bit low after the high's of his myth-making days; I'm a bit low after my first two unrepeatable years on AP; to dull life's woes he has acquired the trait of humor, as have I...

A Note on Longfellow's piece "Pegasus in Pound"- I did not know of his piece until the end and after I had my title. The uncanniness of our similar titles and settings may be attributed to a greater American mindset that has spanned the years.

am glad to see you are still tinkering cause I would sure hate to see you lose those 15 points for exceeding those 40 lines max limit on such a fine poem... but here is my question...what in the heck are you going to cut out of this and still keep it a great poem? Okay, I got an idea, just make it teeny tiny font, give celtic a magnifying glass as a gift and squish it all together in a creative form to resemble a pegasus flying across the page so you keep all the words, then you get extra points for creativity and you don't have to cut a single word...what ya think? Oh well, thought I would give ya the heads up in case you missed that rule so you had time before judging to change whatever you had to , I hate to see you lose points on such a creative write. Good luck dear.
