The Chimera of Clarkdale

Clarkdale
unknown city
built by the pioneers
out of the dust of the desert,
humble bastion of “civilization”
alongside a flowing river,
between the arroyos
rose the town of
Clarkdale

railroad
spur sparkled once
in the eyes of Clarkdale
as the agents strolled by the town,
gala event prepared to solicit
the dream, fortuitous phantom
of silver connections
brought there by the
railroad

deluge
in late August
cried out tears of protest
against their vain aspirations
as washed away the remnants of Clarkdale,
shattered pieces of stone and wood
cleansed by the flowing streams
halt the railroad’s
deluge

Author notes

Triple Rictameters

I really did try to research it, but found nothing. I believe it was a prospective railroad depot, that never came into existence. But it is on no RR map of NM, so I envisioned the rest.

wow, this is very interesting and well done. I love old railroad lore and the ghost buildings of the west; I think you have added a classic tale to that pot with this.
