what is the sound of one hand clapping?”
So much preoccupation with listening
And with one thing that is not,
Today a sound of a temple gong…
Tomorrow a bee passing by…
Yesterday raindrops pelting earth…
Always the non sound of things we never seem to hear;
But that are always with us…
a sound of the Buddha heart
a sound of silence...
Author notes
a famous Zen koan,
“what is the sound of one hand clapping?”
I cannot pretend to interpret it for you but I present how it has inspired me.

I loved your message here. I liked your interpretation of this quote and the profundity captured in this poem.
I liked this line the best.
Always the non sound of things we never seem to hear;
But that are always with us…
Thanks for entering and best of luck in my contest. -

Silent that invokes a sigh is the most profound silence there is. You have reached this state of non-sound, being. not being,
Ultimate silence.
Bravo!
